International Day!

Hi Everyone!
We have our International Day tomorrow (1st September). We hope that you will all come in costume. You could come in wearing the colours of your flag, or maybe in a football shirt, or a T-shirt that has something from your country on it! Maybe you could wear red, white and blue which are the colours of the British flag! Or we would love if you came dressed in the traditional clothes of your country (or someone else's!). The person who is the best dressed will win an amazing prize!
We also have a design your own flag competition. You can think of a country (real or invented) and create a flag for it! We have the sheets on reception that you can come and collect. When you have completed them you can return them back to reception.
We will also decorate the INTO building with flags. We will have a competition to see who can match the correct flag with the country.
We will announce the winners at our party which is in the INTO building from 6pm-8pm. We will have music, snacks, games and lots of fun!
We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

Bank Holiday?

This Monday sees the first Bank Holiday which most of you will be experiencing!! I have just done some research online and discovered one interpretation of the origin of the term "bank holiday" as a:

"Term Roosevelt used shortly after taking office to describe his plan to prevent any more panic runs on the nation's banks. He ordered all the nation's banks closed for a "bank holiday." "

It refers to the holidays throughout the year where a particular event or person is celebrated. They are public holidays, always on a Monday, where many shops and businesses are closed for the day, or earlier than usual. Wikipedia online has a good definition of a bank holiday, and also lists all the ones we celebrate here in England:

a night at the movies?

Hello everyone!! If you love going to the cinema like we do then we thought it would be useful for you to know the selection Exeter offers! There are 3 main cinemas, the Odeon, Vue and the Picturehouse and they're all within walking distance of the city centre. The Odeon and Vue both play the more popular and mainstream kinds of films, whereas the Picturehouse cinema is more independent and international, and also has a very funky bar upstairs!

If you have heard about the Phoenix Art Centre, which is behind Tesco at the end of Gandy Street, then you may know that every Wednesday they host the Exeter Film Society film screenings which are also similar to the Picturehouse choices. For any of you who are progressing onto the University this October there is a campus cinema inside Devonshire House which plays both contemporary films and classics 3 times a week..so there's lots to choose from!! :)
